About Sandra Gray

Locally recognized Artist & Educator, 20 years Seaside Art Commissioner, Published Photographer

Sandra Gray is a retired Elementary school teacher (retired in 2003), artist (Painting-Acrylic & Mixed Media), poet, and photographer.   The challenge of composing and capturing moments with a digital camera has ignited her passion for photography.
Participating in the vibrant Monterey County art community has been a real pleasure for more than 40 years. She is Vice Chairperson of the Seaside Art & History Commission which implements the Art Policy for the City of Seaside.  It is responsible for managing the Avery Gallery located in Seaside City Hall which was designed as a gallery by famous architect Edward D. Stone.  This gallery provides a crucial exhibit space for emerging artists, art groups, youth and cultural events.  The exhibit changes every other month.

The Seaside Art Association (SAA) was formed February 2012 to provide events and venues for Seaside's artists to show and sell their artwork.  As founding Chairperson of the Seaside Artists Association Sandra hopes to continue the Seaside Artists Tour and Christmas Bazaar making them popular & well attended annual events for the whole community.
In the summer of 2010, Gray's Photo Tours became her newest business venture. The concept is to provide guided photographic tours or Photo classes for visitors of this scenic area and portraits on locations of their choice.  She enjoys covering events in her community with photography to record the good times in this gorgeous area.
Sandra's motto is, "I specialize in NOT specializing." When using any one medium becomes restrictive or just plain boring, she is ready to try something new.  Real satisfaction comes from mastering a different technique or an untried material.
August 2011, Sandra rented a studio space at Artists Habitat, Studio Seaside. They closed and she brought all her art materials home where they sit, waiting for Sandra to explore them.  Sometimes they call to her and she answers, by using them.

Covering the walls with art creates a challenge.  Sandra looks at the artwork and wonders, "How did ever I DO that?"
